Eyelid surgery work

• Upper blepharoplasty. Incision placed along the natural eyelid line to remove excess fat, muscle and skin; about 45 minutes for bilateral upper eyelids under sedation and local anesthesia, outpatient (blepharoplasty).
• Lower eyelid blepharoplasty. Removal or repositioning of herniated fat and excess skin; "most often ... an interior lid incision, leaving no visible scars" (transconjunctival); can include CO2 laser resurfacing (lower-eyelid-blepharoplasty).
• Ptosis repair. Tightening of the eyelid-lifting muscles, about an hour; this page's text names Dr. Baylin specifically rather than Dr. Servat (ptosis-repair).

Insurance and cost

Upper blepharoplasty page: "patients can sometimes qualify for insurance coverage for their surgery" when excess tissue impairs vision; criteria determined at consultation (blepharoplasty). No insurance statement appears on the lower blepharoplasty, ptosis or brow lift pages checked. No prices are published on any eyelid page.

Recovery: upper blepharoplasty, about 50% of swelling resolves in one week and 90% in two weeks, return to work in one to two weeks. Lower blepharoplasty, return to work after one week, swelling and bruising may persist 7-10 days. Ptosis repair, most swelling and bruising in the first 48 hours with gradual improvement over two weeks. Endoscopic brow lift, return to work in a week or two.
