The American Society of Plastic Surgeons' most recently dated national average surgeon fee for blepharoplasty was $4,120 in 2020. ASPS's current site states $3,359 for an upper blepharoplasty and $3,876 for a lower blepharoplasty, without a year. Insurance and Medicare coverage
Medicare and most private insurers cover eyelid surgery only when it is medically necessary: excess upper lid skin or a low lid blocking the visual field, shown with a taped visual field test and photographs. A cosmetic blepharoplasty, done to change appearance alone with no functional deficit, is a self-pay procedure at the prices on this page. Medicare's coverage rule is set by each state's Medicare contractor; the rule and its criteria, by state, are on the insurance page. Method
What counts as a published price, and what was left out.
- A price counts when the practice publishes it on its own site as its own fee for the operation. The statement is quoted as printed, with a link to the page it came from.
- A range prints as printed, low to high. A single stated figure prints once.
- Rows group by the procedure label the practice itself uses. A label that names only one lid groups as upper or lower; a label naming both lids, or "quad", groups as upper and lower; a label naming neither lid groups on its own rather than being assigned a guess.
- Averages published by ASPS, aggregator or directory sites, and prices on marketing or review sites rather than the practice's own page, are not counted as practice prices; ASPS's national averages are shown separately above.
