Eyelid surgery work

• Upper blepharoplasty. Outpatient surgery under IV sedation or local anesthesia; removes excess skin and repositions or sculpts fat, sutured within the eyelid crease. May be insurance-covered if it interferes with the visual field, subject to in-office testing. Return to work in 5-7 days; bruising and swelling for 1-2 weeks (upper-blepharoplasty).
• Lower blepharoplasty. A transconjunctival approach (incision behind the eyelid) is preferred; a transcutaneous approach (incision 2mm below the lashes) is used for some patients. Fat is conserved and repositioned where possible; the midface (SOOF) may also be repositioned. Return to work after about 7 days (lower-blepharoplasty).
• Ptosis repair. Corrects drooping of the upper eyelid by tightening the eyelid-raising muscle; typically 30-60 minutes under local anesthesia with or without sedation. Return to work in 5-7 days; bruising and swelling for 1-2 weeks (ptosis-repair).
• Brow lift. Several named approaches: a hairline brow/forehead lift (incision behind the hairline, removes a strip of skin and tissue), internal browpexy (done through an upper-eyelid incision at the time of upper blepharoplasty, for a modest lift), endoscopic forehead lift, direct brow lift, and external browpexy. Recovery about 1 week, with bruising, swelling and tenderness for several weeks (brow-lift).
• Asian eyelid surgery. The page states about 50% of Asian patients have a naturally lower eyelid crease than Western eyelids, and up to 50% have no visible crease; surgery aims to create a natural crease matched to the patient's face. Under 1 hour, local anesthesia or IV sedation; 5-7 days off work (asian-eyelid-surgery).
