Eyelid surgery work
- Upper blepharoplasty. Incision hidden in the natural eyelid crease; fat removed through the same incision if needed. Male patients receive conservative treatment to avoid feminization; Asian eyelids receive extra attention for crease placement (eyelid-surgery-blepharoplasty).
- Lower blepharoplasty. Fat removed through a transconjunctival (inside-eyelid) incision; skin removed via an incision in the natural lower-lid laugh lines (same page).
- Ptosis repair. Internal approach shortens the muscle from the inner eyelid surface; external approach uses a natural-crease incision with internal stitches, patient awake for portions to optimize placement; a frontalis sling procedure recruits forehead muscles when the levator does not function, used for congenital ptosis, muscular dystrophies and myasthenia gravis (eyelid-ptosis).
- Brow ptosis (brow lift). Various surgical options, with Dr. Hui determining the plan at consultation (brow-ptosis).
- Canthoplasty. Small incision at the outer corner of the eye in a laugh line; tendon repaired to restore the natural almond shape and eyelid position (canthoplasty).

Insurance and cost
Blepharoplasty page: insurance may cover surgery deemed medically necessary; Dr. Hui evaluates individual cases. Ptosis, brow ptosis and canthoplasty pages each state: "In some cases, insurance MAY cover some of your surgical procedures IF deemed medically necessary." No prices are published on any page checked.
Recovery: blepharoplasty patients avoid strenuous activity and heavy lifting for one week, with significant improvement in swelling and bruising within two weeks; most patients need no pain medication or only Tylenol. Ptosis, brow ptosis and canthoplasty patients resume normal activities one week after surgery following a period of light activity. Canthoplasty sutures are typically dissolving; non-dissolving sutures may be removed at the 1-2 week follow-up.
